Snow days in Kansas

Snow days in Kansas

The weather in McPherson, Kansas in the month of January has been a little crazy. USD 418 has had about 4 total snow days and there have also been a few days where students left early or had a two-hour delay due to the snow.

This year Kansas has had record setting low temperatures due to the wind chill. Through January 12-16, the wind chills ranged from -20 to -30 degrees. In Wichita, KS the lowest temperature was -24 and in Salina, KS it was -27.

There were many snow drifts on the side of roads which made it very hard for people to get to where they needed to go. Thirty inches was recorded for the most snow in 24 hours in Kansas, on March 28, 2009.

I interviewed Rylie Whitfield, a student here at MHS. We talked about all the snow days and this is what she had to say. Whitfield said the snow days have affected her because it’s hard to go places you need.

Whitfield said, “I think snow days have pros and cons, I know it’s a struggle to drive everywhere, but it’s nice to have a day off to just relax.” Snow days really can affect everyone no matter if it’s in a good way or bad.
