Whisk us away to Christmas

This business has been owned by Jonna Corrigan for 27 years and her mom Pricilla Smith for 35 years. When Pricilla first started when Jonna and her brothers went off to college, it was more of a hobby before she decided to make it something bigger. Most of their family has always helped with the shop when growing up, but the family was never in fear of someone not being there to help. The thing that Jonna values most about the store is family, making memories, and people would always “step up when needed”. They have had a lot of the same staff for the last 20 years.

The very knowledgeable employees know everything there is to know about their products and are always willing to help you find exactly what you are looking for to finish your cooking or kitchen. Cook’s Nook is a family owned business that specializes in the top of the line cutlery, gadgets, gourmet food, kitchen essentials, home decor, cookware, bake ware, and dinnerware.

The business has been doing their downtown Christmas event for all 35 years that it has been open. Christmas time is when they get the most activity in the store. The Christmas open house always tends to bring in a lot of people from out of town along with the McPherson regulars. In the past month, The Cook’s Nook was voted for “changing with times,” and that helped them with getting to where they are today.

The Cook’s Nook has not had many struggles, yet there are a few things that they have had to deal with. One being the time when they had to go online. It created some struggles with advertising people to get into the store. There are some classes that people can take about some of the products that they have and not being able to do that didn’t help with their personal customer service.  Some of the classes that they provided this year include Rise & Shine, Bistro Bites, Home Sweet Home, and Gourmet Pizza Party.

One lesson that Jonna has learned is to “roll with what the retail gives you,” and to be a good owner, it takes determination, dedication, and consideration for people and customers.

One of the most influential people in Jonna’s life are her parents because of the way she saw how much they put into a store. One of Jonna’s favorite memories is when the store brought in their special vinegar because it brought in more customers than they could have ever imagined. They have lots of different types of vinegar including Cranberry Spice White Balsamic Vinegar, Jalapeno Lime Balsamic Vinegar, Bourbon Barrel Aged Balsamic Vinegar, and many more.

As you can see, The Cook’s Nook is a very reliable shop to get any kitchen or cooking supplies you need for any occasion. They are one of the most family friendly, busy, and hardworking shops in downtown McPherson.
