Superintendent, Shiloh Vincent, told Kake News that the Roosevelt staff reacted very fast to get the student the help she needed. Vincent also states, “We are very appreciative that the suspect made contact with us, and took full responsibility for what occurred.” This allowed the school representatives to be focused on the student and make sure she was okay.
The student was taken to the McPherson hospital but was then relocated to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in a stable condition and released later that day.
McPherson Police Department reports, 31-year-old man responsible, Nehemiah Scott, was charged for aggravated battery and aggravated child endangerment. His bond was set at $12,500 and later he was released on bond.
On Wednesday, September 27, the student was welcomed home to local first responders, school representatives, and family to celebrate her eighth birthday.
The McPherson Police Department reminds McPherson City residents, “It is unlawful to operate an air rifle, bow and arrow, slingshot, BB gun, within the City, except within the confines of a building or structure from which the projectiles cannot escape.”
