JV Boys/Varsity girls had their first wrestling meet of this school year on December 6th, 2020 at McPherson high school. At the meet there was 14 team that participated including, Andale, Brookville/Ell-saline, Buhler, Goddard, Eisenhower, Great bend, Hutchinson, Junction City, Lakin, Larned, McPherson, Newton, Nickerson, Salina Central, and WaKeeney/Trego County. There was a lot of top 3 finishes in all of the weight classes which was great for the first meet of the season.

This first meet was different with no spectators in the stands to having to social distance and wear masks. Landon Thompson, freshman said,” It was pretty fun but a little weird with no one in the stand but I had a great time and loved cheering on my friends as they wrestled as well.”                                                                                                                             

There was also a couple of first-time wrestlers Nadia Vesser, freshman said, “It was really fun I learned a lot and I can see why it’s not for everyone but if you’re not sure just try it and the girls on the team were so helpful and welcoming, I just love it.”

Another first-time wrestler Jordan Martens, freshman said, “I think it was great to get out in a real situation and get some experience. It was awesome to wrestle people from all different levels and learn from my mistakes. It was a lot of fun and super excited for the rest of the year!”
