The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army

This time of year can mean many things to many people, but the highlight of it all for everyone is the happy spirit that sweeps us all off our feet. When the weather gets cold and bitter, everyone around gets warmer and kinder. The holiday season can be very simple and pleasant for some while others are having a hard time keeping food on the table or clothes on the backs of their loved ones.

I have so many memories of going to Walmart in the snow with my parents when I was little. Outside was a Salvation Army bell ringer that would smile and say hello as we walked in. After doing our shopping while walking out my parents would give me a little money to put in the bucket. The feeling of knowing that in some small way I helped someone I don’t even know and might not ever know was so amazing to my little mind. Although I have grown up, I still feel that way, and the best part is now that I am older I can make a bigger contribution.

The Salvation Army is a great way to help those who are not as fortunate as you. They do so much and not just around the holidays. They have so many services available for anyone who needs them. Recently they have been working hard to help with relief from Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Fiona. They have received many donations from businesses like UPS and JCPenney. Another amazing team-up is with the Dallas Cowboys. Each year on the Thanksgiving day football game they hold a Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime show and this year the 132nd year, the Jonas brothers are going to perform.

There are so many ways to help. You can go to a local store and donate to the Red Kettle, or you could go to Walmart and get a gift from the Angel Tree. You could also go to https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/ to donate and read up on all of the amazing work they have done!
