Dunking for Awareness: Think Pink Night, a win for Lady Bullpups

McPherson Girls basketball is having one of their best seasons. They are undefeated right now, with the exception of one game at the tournament on January 30th through February 1st. They have come a long way with losing three seniors at the beginning of the year, and having former player Katelyn Loeker coming to coach for JV.

In May a senior, Lakyn Scheiferecke tore her ACL in the soccer season. Since this happened, she had been in physical therapy all summer and is now starting for her team. At the beginning she couldn’t do much. She worked hard to get back into the groove of practicing. In the middle of the season at practice, Andrea Sweat, senior, also tore her ACL and MCL. She is now out for the rest of the season. Emma Ruddle also found out in the middle of the season that she had a leg disease that caused her to have surgery on both legs. She was out for nine games. She is now better and back to starting for her team. The team has suffered with these losses but it doesn’t dwindle their spirit.

Last Friday, February 7th, the MHS lady’s basketball hosted their annual Think Pink fundraiser. This is the  thirteenth year that they’ve been doing this. The MHS and MMS girls come together to help raise money for it. The high school has to shoot free throws and however many they get that’s how much money they will pay. For example, fifty out of one hundred, and the funder put in one dollar for every shot, that’d be fifty dollars. The MMS girls also do this but it’s every attempted shot. They raised about $3,400 for the WACCC (Women And Children Combating Cancer).

With the Think Pink Fundraiser, the Bullpups also won their game against Andale, with 51-37.
