Swim Defies Odds as They Triumph to Victory

The McPherson Boys Swim team kicked off their season on December 7th 2019 with a second place finish. They have been all over the leaderboard this past season. With Justus Hampton and William Powers are the second best swimmers in the state. They are leading their team to a triumphant season.

They took first in Hutchinson on January 16th 2020, with 319 points alone. There were nine teams in all. William Powers, Justus Hampton, Cody Achilles, and Rhys Vanderhoof took first in 200 medley relay, and 400 freestyle relay.

The Bullpup’s swim team also won their second meet in a row on Thursday, January 16th 2020 at Salina. Their competitors were  Andover, Andover Central, Derby, Salina Central, and Salina South. We won with 474 points with the strongest competitor, Derby, close behind at 437. 

They started practicing a more than a week before Thanksgiving in November of 2019. They have been constantly working to get golds and silvers, with the leadership of their juniors and seniors.“It’s different because we’ve lost 16 years in a row and we’ve only gained two people. I kinda like it because there’s less people so we have more space in our pool,” said Wesley Wurm, sophomore.
