The annual blood drive at McPherson High School was on October 2nd from 8:30 to 2:30.  It was in the auxiliary gym for anyone over the age of 16 wanting to donate blood to people in need.  Sign up was in Mrs. Harlin’s room, before Friday, September 29; she gave out papers for anyone who was interested.

The goal for this years blood drive was 37 units of blood, Mrs. Harlin said, “The goal was 37 units, so we were just a little short.”  In addition, there were 47 presenting donors and she said she was very proud of the number of first time donors.  Hoping to reach our goal, the next blood drive at McPherson High School will be in March of 2018.

Halle Giddings was going to donate blood this year but she was unable to because her iron level was too low.  I asked why she wanted to donate blood and she said “Because I knew if I did, it would go to where it was needed.  It would go to people who really needed it.”  She also tried to donate last year but she said they couldn’t get any blood to come out.  She can’t donate in the spring because it’s softball season and you can’t donate in season.

I asked Leah Parker if she donated blood and she didn’t.  I asked her why, and she replied, “The reason I didn’t donate is because last year I didn’t weigh enough and I didn’t think to check this year.”  She said that if she would’ve checked and weighed enough then she would’ve donated.  I asked Leah if she was going to donate this spring and she said she was going to.
