The Freshman volleyball team has been doing great so far in the new school year of 2017-2018 with eleven games won and only five games lost.  A great game they had was on the 7th of this month, where they won 5 to 0 defeating their opponent.  Coach Danica Fitzmorris and the team are currently prepping for their next game which will be a tournament on the 23rd.

The members of the girls freshman quad include: Olivia Morgan, Hailey Henson, Katie Berg, Melissa Mintzer, Taylor Casebeer, Hope Wehrman, Megan Lulloff, Breanna Schnelle, Lexi Kynaston, Addison Seidl, and Ashtyn Heim.

Ashtyn Heim, defence specialist, may be a freshman but is definitely not new to volleyball.  She said, “[she] started doing volleyball at the age of eight.” and starting at such a young age and playing for so long really shows on the court.  Coach Fitzmorris had to say, “ My personal highlights in volleyball have to have been 2nd at state my senior year against Bishop Carrol in 1988. I also earned all state recognition that year and played in the all state games in Topeka. Playing in college, both softball and volleyball at Hutch Juco and then Div. 2 Missouri Western. I love coaching in general and coach both volleyball and softball. I find gratification in the small moments, when girls learn a skill or how to get better at their craft, or if they just have a better day because you could impact them and make them feel accomplished!”

When you look at the MHS freshman volleyball team you can tell they are definitely devoted to the sport,  however there are a lot of other athletes out there on other teams who have the same love for volleyball.  The team is doing good so far, lets hope they keep it up with the other teams in competition with them.
