Forensics at State.

Since the beginning of second semester Forensics began preparing, the hard work, sweat, and yes sometimes tears set the road for the team. Making the team break the school record with 30 or so state quals. The way it works is quite simple. You find a book or a piece you enjoy or could be interpreted. Then you add blocking (actions/movement). Memorize said piece, polish any bad bits. Which is a lot more complicated than it seems.
With the piece you have you go to a tournament like any other sport. Where there is three rounds of performing piece in front of a judge who is the deciding factor of your score. Points varied from 25-5, 5 being the worst and 25 being the best. The judge later critiques your piece and gives back any creative criticism. If you do well enough you may make it into finals where you perform in front of a panel of judges and anyone who wants to watch. You can place anywhere from 6th to 1st .
2-4 people can qualify to go to state, depending on how many people are in said event.

This year forensics had 30 or more people who state qualified which broke the MHS record. Which is what lead everyone on the team to state. State forensics is a bit different in a few ways. There are semi finals and paneling judges. Rule are a lot stricter than usual also.
Jimmy Fortner, Molly Black, Dalton Kokmeyer, Kiley Delaney, and Mattea Black all broke in semi finals. Jimmy breaking 10th in Dramatic Interpretation, Molly Placing 7th in Poetry, Dalton and Molly placing 6th in duet, Kiley and Mattea 4th in Duet, Dalton also a state runner up (second) in Humorous Interpretation , and finally Mattea a state runner up in prose. Placing McPherson 5th overall. Be reminded that this is the whole state that competes. Out of the whole state, we got 5th. Pretty amazing, right?
