McPherson High School Prom is a much anticipated event for upperclassmen, as it’s a night filled with dancing and various after prom activities. It’s a formal event with light food available, and a DJ to keep spirits high.
The junior class spends many days and nights building the scenery and bouncing ideas off of one another, to finally set the scene for the big night. The theme for the 2016 Prom is “Midnight Cruise.”
“There’s a lot of planning that goes into prom construction,” junior Class President Thomas Smith said. “You have to make a lot of decisions, stay in the budget, but also make it fun.”
Each year eight seniors, four boys and four girls, are nominated to be Prom King and Queen. The upperclassman vote on the winners as they walk into prom, then the winners are announced and have their first dance together as royalty.
“I was really surprised that I got nominated, but it’s cool being nominated with two fellow theatre thespians,” senior Molly Black said. “I am mostly looking forward to getting ready for prom, finding a dress and eating good food with good friends.”
Prom is exciting night for seniors. It’s one of the last times the class will be together before going their separate ways.
“I’m definitely going to miss all my friends, the track gang, and all the activities,” senior Amy Suernam said. “This prom will be memorable because I am going with a smaller group and asked an amazing guy to go to prom with me!”
Prom is April 2 in the McPherson High School roundhouse. Promenade will takes place at 8:30 in the Big Theatre.
