#TheTruth About Smoking

World No Smoking Day

Smoking is an addiction that needs to come to an end, because smoking not only kills the smoker, but everyone around them, and the people around them. Firsthand smoke means that you’re the smoker, secondhand means that the smoker is near you or you can smell it on their clothes, and thirdhand smoke can be anything leftover from where the smoker has been. Any of these can cause lung diseases, respiratory infections, pneumonia and asthma attacks, and according to Healthline, it’s one of the leading causes of preventable deaths.

So, when you walk by anyone smoking a cigarette in public, you are affected by their poor choice to smoke a cigarette. I believe that smoking should be banned in all public places, especially in highly populated areas. Even if the smoker doesn’t realize what effects their habit has on other people in the area, it doesn’t matter. It has become more than just wanting a cigarette; it’s a need. Smoking is highly addictive and once you start, it can be extremely difficult to stop.

Think of a time when you were walking in a public place and you suddenly smelled the smoke. Not only does it smell bad, but the smoke can trigger an asthma attack in people with asthma. Newborns exposed to secondhand smoke have a higher risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), ear infections, and asthma attacks. The truth talks about how you can take action against smoking, and gives you the facts. It also tells you about events you can attend and focuses on the facts on smoking. From TheTruth.com, “We’re not here to criticize your choices, or tell you not to smoke. We’re here to arm everyone- smokers and nonsmokers- with the tools to make change.”
