This Year’s Hi-Steppers Are Better Than Ever

The Hi-Steppers, who you may have seen perform at all the home football and basketball games, have been working as hard as ever this year to provide us with quality half-time entertainment. They practice 3 times a week to learn new routines. Routines can take anywhere a single practice to two weeks. Although, usually it only takes about a week. As well as performing at games, the Hi-Steppers also take part in UDA (Universal Dance Association) in the summer. They learn new routines, and compete against other teams from Kansas.

Sophomore Hi-Stepper, Kelsey Wilson, said “Last year I was the only freshman on the team; I am still the only one in my class. It made me have to jump outside my bubble to meet new people, because I didn’t know anyone on the team.”

As the seniors on the team leave, the Hi-Steppers are in need of people to try out for next year. The Hi-Steppers will be welcoming new members for the 2016-2017 school year. Tryouts are usually held at the end of April or the beginning of May, with a meeting beforehand. “My advice for people wanting to be a Hi-Stepper is to just try out! Go for it! If you think you won’t make it because you are not flexible you should still try out, because most people weren’t flexible when they tried out. If upcoming freshmen are worried to try out they really shouldn’t be, because it makes coming into high school so much easier when you already know other high schoolers,” said Kelsey.
