Looking For Alaska Is A Book You Won’t Be Able To Put Down

One of my favorite books of all time is Looking for Alaska by John Green. The story is about a junior, Miles “Pudge” Halter, who starts at a boarding school in Alabama called Culver Creek Preparatory High School leaving behind his home in Florida. He makes a variety of friends there, but one in particular stands out to him: Alaska Young. Alaska is mysterious, adventurous, and daring. She’s everything that Pudge isn’t, and he can’t help but fall for her.

My favorite part of any John Green book is the characters. He does an amazing job at making relatable, and well thought out characters. Pudge is quiet, a little awkward, almost predictable, but he’s a deep thinker, and you see that in the first person narration that Green uses for him. Alaska is the opposite of Pudge. She’s very beautiful, secretive, and spontaneous. Deep down, she’s a little lost and broken inside, but hardly ever shows this side of her. Pudge’s roommate and friend Chip “The Colonel” Martin is confident and not afraid to tell people what he’s thinking. Other character’s include another friend, Takumi Hikohito, the new Romanian girl, Lara Buterskaya, and the strict Dean of the school, Mr. Starnes, also known as “The Eagle”.

Pudge, Alaska, The Colonel, Takumi and Lara have many adventures, that usually involve a prank of some sort. Everything seems to be going great for Pudge. But one night, their world is turned upside down. Something has happened, and Pudge is determined to find out why and how this happened.
