The Unbeatable MHS Boys Tennis Brings Home The Titles

McPherson High’s boys tennis team has a perfect record, being undefeated for the season. The team is ranked No. 1 in the class 4A division and is only continuing to work hard.

The varsity boys and a second team consisting of a few junior varsity players filled the spots for the home invitational meet. Nowak playing singles, rolled up the points playing once again against Independent’s top player and winning the championship. Schrader stepped up to the challenge and placed third. MHS doubles teams of Aizawa-Stewart and Snell-Hageman were fifth and sixth with records of 3-1 and 2-2.

The top six boys were found undefeatable with a total of 55 team points powering over Maize (49), Independence, the No. 3 team in 4A (42), and Wichita Collegiate, the No. 2 in 4A (38).

For the second Mac team, Patrick Munsey and Jace Kinnamon racked up the points on the back side of the bracket and found a ninth-place medal. Trey Hett and Thomas Smith were 14th going 1-3. In singles, Price Kramer and Lorenzo Cornelius went 12th and 15th.

Not long after beating Maize at home, McPherson varsity boys kicked it in gear again and found another win against Maize at the Maize Invitational on Thursday, April 21. With many teams all wanting to give McPherson their first loss of the season, the boys were put to the test. MHS found four championship titles from Nowak and Snell in singles, and doubles teams Aizawa and Schrader all going 3-0. Hageman and Stewart went 2-1 for third after a tough second round loss.

After changing the lineup for the home invitational, coach Tyler Brown lined things back up to what he thinks is best. The result of the day ended 29 secure points and another win for the Bullpups.

Although the boys seem to rolling through meets, this next one will put them through a real challenge. On Saturday April 23,, the boys will next travel to the Wichita Collegiate to compete in the TOC (Tournament of Champions) that include most of the top teams in Classes 6-4A. This is where they will see their true competition for the year.
