March for Life

January 24, 2017, approximately 600 teens and chaperones, 20 of them from McPherson, Kansas, traveled together to Washington DC, for March for Life. After an approximate 24 hour bus ride, church was held at the hotel and then lights out. Thursday the 26th, the buses visited few spots that interested them such as the Basilica of the National Shrine in Washington, DC. They went to Franciscan Monastery and Planned Parenthood in downtown DC where each bus group prayed a rosary out in front of the building, one of the many things the diocese did for the cause.

The March for Life began on Friday, January 27, 2017, next to the Washington Monument. Security was raised and everyone was on full alert. First at the gates of the rally everyone went through a scanner just like airport security and there was a list of items that were and were not allowed. Along with the check point security, there were also snipers on the buildings surrounding the rally, which gave many a chill down their spine. Many speakers, including Vice President Mike Pence and even Baltimore’s Ravens Ben Watson, spoke of being pro life and wanting to defund Planned Parenthood.

After the rally hundreds of thousands of people made their way to the Supreme Court taking their stand against abortion and proving that they are the pro life generation. One of the most motivational speakers was Mia Love who shared her own story of how her parents saved her, after considering abortion, and now she is the first Haitian American and the first black female Republican in Congress. There were many other women with similar stories and even a group of women who had worked in a Planned Parenthood clinic and changed their ways.

2017 was the biggest March for Life ever, from the numbers and from the vice president, the 44th March for Life was a huge and memorable event.
