Early Friday morning, McPherson High’s parking lot was filled with police officers. As students were curious to why the increase police presence, Principal Plackemeiere sent out an email during the first hour of the school to reassure and inform the student body and parents why there were officers on campus. Plackemeier sent out

“You may have noticed an increased police presence around MHS this morning. MHS Administration received a report of a threat to the building posted on social media last night (1/12/17). Investigation of the picture, message, and username allowed us to pinpoint the student, hour, and the classroom it was posted. The McPherson Police Department came to MHS and helped search the building. Nothing threatening or suspicious was found in the building or in the student’s locker. MHS Administration has taken disciplinary action accordance to the USD 418 Board of Education Policies. MHS Administration and the McPherson Police Department believe there is no threat to the student safety.”

Some of the students were thankful that they were told about the threat but some parents have confessed their opinions about the matter. Parents have posted that they were disappointed with the information being presented at such a late notice. They confessed that they think that the MHS student body and parents should have been told there was a threat on the school earlier than before the school day started.

While during the other times there has been threats, drug busts, or fights there has been lot of gossiping and spreading of rumors. This time however, the school has been silent.

“I did not even know there was a threat towards the school until I got the email. Nobody has been talking about it, which is actually really strange. Last time there was a threat at the school, it was the talk of the week,” said senior Hadley Hageman.

While today might not seem like any other day, the police and MHS Administration have assured that everything seems to be okay.
