McPherson High’s girl’s tennis team traveled to Buhler to compete in the AVCTL III-IV Championships. Top two ranked teams in Class 4A had a showdown that will be seen yet again at the State Tournament. Wichita Collegiate, the number one ranked team, finished just eight points ahead of the pups to win the League Title.

Seniors Rachel Ivers and Ellea Ediger, last year’s state runner-ups in doubles, blew past Collegiate’s strong doubles team to win 6-3, 6-1 in the championship match.

The No. 2 doubles team of senior Heidi Myers and freshman Taylor Bruce also advanced to the finals, losing 7-6, 6-4 to a competitive Wellington team.

On the singles side of the tournament, junior Maisie Edmonson proved that she’s going to put up a fight. Edmonson with the No. 4 seed faced a strong Buhler player in the second round, beating her after a two and half hour match. Right after that, Maisie was sent to the finals against one of Collegiate’s top players, losing in a super tiebreaker.

Freshman Rachel Carlson in the No. 2 singles slot, took sixth after losing a close match that also went to a 15-13 super tiebreaker.

Next, the lady Bullpups will travel again to Buhler to compete in Regionals. The top six placers at Regionals will then advance to the State tournament in Winfield the following weekend.
