Many people believe that learning a second or third language is cool or interesting. In addition, it is also good for your brain and can help you connect with people.

Scientists have found that learning another language or two can help improve memory and extend your attention span. There are also other reasons people learn another language, such as family or friend related. Freshman, Ashley Moore, said “I speak Spanish because most of my family lives in Mexico and I have to communicate with them somehow.” When you are bilingual or even trilingual. Many more job opportunities are opened up for you. Also, learning a new language can help improve study and learning skills.

When traveling to a new country, you may have the fear of looking stupid when trying to communicate with locals. However, you may want to try because even if you mispronounce a word or two, the person will most likely be honored by the fact that you did try. In fact, if you do speak a country’s native tongue, you may meet some very interesting people. Since almost the entire world knows or is learning english, it’d probably be nice to hear a native language, even from an expat or tourist. It is important to break the (language) barrier between people and cultures.

McPherson High School offers a variety of second language courses, such as Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Japanese. All languages, excluding Spanish, are online. Although these classes may be harder due to the non-classroom appeal so may want to sign up with the administration. So, if you have any spare time, maybe try to learn a little Spanish or French.
