The boys and girls McPherson High School cross country team powered through their McPherson Invitation last Thursday, September 22nd. Hosting their home invitational at McPherson Rolling Acres Golf Course, both teams competed at a high level after traveling to Buhler’s Invite the week before.

In the final wrap up until the McPherson Invitational, the boys cross country team placed eighth in the Buhler Invite with quite a few top finishers. Seniors Chris Kirchner (31st) and Paxton Leaf (26th) are taking this season head on and giving it everything they’ve got. While, other top placers include sophomore Tyler Timson (33rd) and Isaiah Moyer (50th). Not only did these guys finish well at Buhler, they laced up their shoes for McPherson’s Invite and were top finishers again with Kirchner (5th), Timson (8th), Leaf (10th), and Moyer (11th).

The girls also opened their season with a bright beginning. Traveling with the boys to Buhler, the girls’ team placed eighth and had several top individual finishers including sophomores Katie Bahr (38th), Maggie Leaf (39th), and Mary Ann Wurm (44th). Just like the boys, these top varsity girls all finished in the top 20 at the home invitational with Wurm (8th), Leaf (12th) and Bahr (13th).

Both boys and girls placed second as a whole and are now preparing for the next invitational at Newton on October 1st.
