McPherson High School is preparing for both old and new traditions as graduation week comes to a close. The senior class is going to their old elementary schools to walk the halls in their caps and gowns. Elementary school kids will line the hallways and watch them.

“I’m excited to go the elementary school especially since two of my siblings are still there,” senior Hannah Stecklein said. “It will also be nice to see some of my old teachers.”

On Friday, the senior parade is scheduled. Seniors are invited to meet at Genesis parking lot at 8:30 and be escorted to the high school in their vehicles for a parade. Other grades gather outside to watch them.

“For the senior parade I’m going to drive my dad’s open top jeep with a couple of my friends,” senior Grace Colaw said. “I think it’s a cool tradition because you get to show off to the town that you are done with high school.”

After the parade, rehearsal for graduation will begin. Students must run through and practice the ceremony.

“I am happy that I get to leave the school and start a new chapter of my life,” senior Monet Kunde said. “I’m also a little sad because I have to leave all my friends behind. So, it’s kind of bittersweet.”

On Saturday graduation starts at 7:30 p.m. Senior inserts, designed by the senior staff

High Life editors, will be passed out and available to pick up.

“Graduation is incredibly bittersweet,” senior Ashlee May said. “It’s fulfilling to know

I’ve successfully completed four years of high school, which was definitely a struggle at times. On the other hand, as much as I’ve complained about going to school every day, I know I’m going to miss the familiarity of McPherson High School once I’m away at college.”

Congratulations to the class of 2016!
