“Millie” Hits the Stage

“The first night can be a little rough because of nerves and still trying to figure things out, but it always ends up being a great show,” senior Hannah Stecklein said. “We had less time to put this show together than previous years but I think it’s actually coming together pretty well.”

The musical revolves around a character named Millie, played by senior Chelsey Kerr, who moves from Kansas to New York city in attempt to be a “modern woman.”

“I think the show is very good because it is about a girl trying to chase her dreams in NYC,” senior Amy Suenram said.

The time period of the show is the 20s and it features speakeasies, flappers, and many tap dancing routines.

“I was pretty excited to finally have a show in McPherson that would let me tap,” Stecklein said. “I just think tapping is a lot of fun.”

The cast showed off their first act on Feb. 10 to McPherson Middle School orchestra, band and choir students, as well as fifth and sixth graders from St. Joseph Catholic School.

“I think act one went really well from the cast’s perspective, but I don’t know how much of the humor the middle schoolers really understood,” senior Molly Black said. “I think with a more diverse audience everyone’s energy will be up.”

Tickets for the show are $8 for adults, $5 for students and $4 for seniors.
