On January 13, the McPherson High School Science Club traveled to Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus in Salina to compete in Science Olympiad. Students competed in a variety of courses, including Astronomy, Forensics, Anatomy and Physiology, and many others.

“I competed in Chem Lab,” senior Monet Kunde said. “That one was really fun. They showed us experiments and we had to answer questions about it. A beaker exploded and that was really cool.”

The team placed third overall out of ten teams. Their total team score added up to be 100.

“I was with Michelle for two events and Monet and Michelle for another,” senior Mandi Handlin said. “Michelle and I placed third in our two events, Biology and Disease Detectives. I think it was fun and a good way to just test knowledge that we have learned in past classes.”

The entire team consisted of 15 students who competed in 23 events. MHS got second place in six events and third place in seven events.

“My favorite part was the computer programming event,” senior Colton Zimmerman said. “It was my favorite because it involved what I want my career to consist of.”

Since the team placed third, they will attend State at Wichita State University on April 2.
