Unneeded Sequeling of Movies

Denise Farley

A lot of movies have endings that need sequels, but there comes a point where they need to stop. There are the movies such as Pretty Woman, that deserve sequels, but others such as Toy Story don’t really need another sequel. I liked the first two but after that, it got old. Another example would be: the Fast and Furious series. Do they really need seven movies? Other offending movies include Karate Kid, Rocky, Scream, Freddy, Jason, The Chipmunks, and Jaws.

Of course, in my opinion, there is always that exception, such as Star Wars.

The Karate Kid has five movies. The original three were kind of okay, but then you get the next two, and it’s repetitive. We get it. The kid is bullied, finds a master in kung-fu, and thus learns how to defend himself. It’s unoriginal and cliche.

Rocky has seven movies: four original and three remakes. Yes, this guy is totally awesome at fighting, but there’s nothing more to that. Has our society come to the point where we are willing to watch the same fighting over and over?

Scary movies are no different. Scream has four movies. Freddy has eleven movies. We do not need someone like Freddy Kreuger to live that long. Jason has been in twelve movies. Seriously, do we really need twelve different movies about the same person? The Jaws series consists of four movies, all about the same scenario. People are swimming, and then all of a sudden a shark eats someone. I mean how hard can it be to just put up a net or something to keep out sharks? Or maybe just stay away from the beach during the seasons that the shark migrate through beaches.

The reasons the sequels for Star Wars are wanted are because everybody likes the characters and their personalities such as Yoda, and the plots were as original as Hollywood movies can get. The films are classic, timeless, innovative, and you compare the prequel to the original. The mythology is great, and the music used was a huge part of the story. The whole good vs evil thing was on a cosmic scale of greatness. Overall the sequel to Star Wars was very much  needed and shed some light on the poor sequels of the past.
